Dull Times May Lead to Poor Food Choices
A recent study presented at the Britsh Pychological Society's Annual Conference found that people who are bored tend to eat more sweetened, fatty, and salty foods. The idea is that boredom results in low levels of the stimulating brain chemical dopamine, so we eat foods that bring us comfort in order to increase our dopamine levels. I believe that it is safe to say that many of us have mindlessly ate less than healthy food, even when we are not hungry, in order to feel fulfilled in someway. Since boredome may be the cause of our desire to eat, in the future we ought to do activities that simulates our minds (like reading, exercising, talking to friends or family, taking a walk, gardening, etc.) so that we avoid excess consumption of less than healthy foods.
