Produce Stickers

The numbered stickers on your produce are called PLU ("price look-up") codes and they are used to identify produce.

If you see a 4 digit number beginning with a "3" or "4" that means that the produce was conventionally grown (fertilizers, pesticides, etc were likely used to encourage things like pest or weather resistance, out of season growth and higher yields).

Stickers that have 5 digits and that begin with a "9" represent organic produce (95% - or more- free of synthetic chemical or additive and cannot be GMO engineered).
