Food Outbreak Awareness

An outbreak of E.coli poisoning linked to romaine lettuce from Yuma, Arizona has infected at least 98 people from 22 states so fara this month. E.coli is an infection that causes diarrhea and vomiting and the infection can be mild to life-threatening.

Are you aware of how to stay up to date on food and health-related outbreaks?

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has a section on their website regarding current and past outbreaks to keep the public informed on the status of such outbreaks.

This is a great resource for those who are concerned about how an outbreak may effect their wellbeing.

The most effective way to prevent contracting a foodborne illness from leafy greens that you have purchased is to wash your greens thoroughly under running water. There are more food safety tips here from the CDC's website.
